HORSE CAMP by Bailey Stanley

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS , APRIL, 2008-04-17

DAY ONE - Sunday
The lady who owns the horse camp is Launa. She is our teacher. I learnt how to ride a pony then I learnt how to ride a horse. I thought it would be hard to control the horse and ride a horse but it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I had lots of fun on my first day at horse camp. I rode a horse called Appy - she is a nice calm horse.
Launa started both Tristen and I off by riding bareback in the sand arena. We rode Tinkerbell who was a small horse. We did aeroplanes and round the world exercises so we could get our balance right. Launa said this would help us when we rode a real horse out in the open.

DAY TWO - Monday
I learnt how to rise to the trot. I had lots of fun rising to the trot even though it is very hard to rise to the trot at the right time. I rode Bruce and Appy. I love going to horse camp and am so happy we will be going for five days.
I was so tired at the end of the second day that I was too tired to eat dinner.

DAY THREE - Tuesday
I started out today by riding bareback in the sandroll on Tinkerbell and Patsy. Launa said that if you can control your horse bareback, you will have more chance of controlling them when you saddle them up.
I love going to horse camp. I really love riding the horses out in the paddock. This morning I went to fetch the horses. I am also learning how to groom the horses. I brushed them and made them happy.
I was given a hat which has Arena Horses on the front. I also got an iceblock.

DAY FOUR - Wednesday
Today started by not eating breakfast! Launa took us to have a special breakfast at the sale yards. We watched cattle being sold. It was very interesting and fun. When we got back to the horse camp, we started out today by riding bareback in the sandroll on Tickerbell and Patsy. Later I rode Bruce. Launa said that I was learning very quickly and she told Grandma I was doing a really good job.

DAY FIVE - Friday
This is the last day of horse camp. Tristen and I are both very sad that it has to end. We went at 9 o'clock and watched Launa as she loded up the horse float with two horses that are going to Dubbo to race today. Launa shaved their whiskers and some of their mane. She even shaved their feet! We are going to have our last chance to ride today and at 3 o'clock, Adrian and Grandma are going to come and watch us go through our paces.

Thank you Launa for a wonderful week...we learnt a lot and had lots of fun!
